Overview
A CMM inspection report for precision parts should connect measured results to the drawing revision and the features that matter for acceptance. A report that only lists numbers without feature identity or method context is difficult to use in release decisions.
Buyers should ask for reporting that mirrors the critical callouts on the approved drawing.
What to include
Include part identification, drawing revision, measured features with nominal and tolerance, actual results, and clear pass/fail status. Note the inspection method or program reference when that context affects how a result should be read.
If only a subset of dimensions is measured, state the sampling or balloon list so the report is not mistaken for a full drawing verification.
Relation to FAI
First article inspection and ongoing CMM checks serve different moments in the program. FAI confirms a process can produce the drawing intent; later CMM reports monitor continued conformance. Align both to the same critical feature list whenever possible.
Next steps
Review Quality Control and Inspection Process, then include inspection expectations in your RFQ.
